When is your next Opening Day?

You can create your personal Opening Day!

“You look forward to it [Opening Day] like a birthday party when you’re a kid. You think something wonderful is going to happen.”  –Joe DiMaggio

Spring arrives for baseball fans on Opening Day. Like spring itself, Opening Day is a new beginning, a fresh start. As the new season begins, every team has a chance to put their offseason preparation into action and secure a spot in the playoffs. Each team has an entire organization of professionals—owners, players, coaches, and others—working toward one goal: winning the World Series.

From the moment of last season’s final out, every team has worked to improve for this moment, the start of the 2017 season. Organizational changes, personnel adjustments, strategy improvements, and new plans have all been implemented. Opening Day is each team’s first opportunity to show themselves, their team, and the fans the results of their planning and hard work. Will the changes and effort produce the desired outcome? What works as intended? What is better? What is worse?  What requires more changes?

Businesses and Individuals Need an “Opening Day”

As exciting as baseball’s annual Opening Day is for fans, teams, and players, equally inspiring is a business leader who creates an “Opening Day” for their company and its work teams. As leaders, it is important to take stock of where we are, to catalog our past successes and learn from our failures. Then we must create new goals and an organizational plan to reach them. No plan would be complete without a start date—our “Opening Day”—and an end date along with a success strategy. In sports, our progress is measured on the scoreboard. In business, we need to develop our own scoreboard with quantifiable milestones that measure our progress.

As individuals, we also need an “Opening Day.” Some new beginnings are obvious: getting married, having children, a new job, and others. While life-changing events like these force us to start fresh, we can and should create our own “Opening Day” anytime we need one. It is important to be honest with ourselves about our personal strengths and weaknesses, discern areas in which we need to improve, and consider where our current choices are leading us.

My personal best “Opening Day” was about 25 years ago. I made poor decisions as a teenager that did not put me on a path to long-term success. At 20 years old, I decided that I needed a new path, a new plan… I needed an “Opening Day.”

I discuss this in detail in my new book:  It Is Whether You Win Or Lose And How You Play The Game.

A Challenge to Plan for Success and Start Fresh

In my opinion, many organizations and individuals simply fail to plan, and this creates a directionless existence. They work hard but lack the direction a plan provides. They focus on the urgent tasks of their day without any time to plan for important decisions and events in their business and lives.

I challenge everyone to create an “Opening Day” for their company and life. Major League Baseball’s new season begins on April 2, 2017; fans are waiting expectantly to see the changes and planning that offseason planning will bring to their team. Just the same, creating an “Opening Day” for your company and yourself will bring increased energy along with direction and the focus needed to reach your goals.

Drones and Last Mile Delivery Services. The Future?

prime-air-drone

The news about amazon.com’s large deliver drone prototype has recently hit the headlines. So what’s the big deal?

Drones for small package delivery is a tantalizing futuristic concept rich with possibilities for last mile delivery in very specific situations and circumstances.  The appeal for speed, freeing highways, reducing carbon emissions, and, most of all, customer service will continue to move drones forward, especially for light load packages.  We’re a last mile delivery company that services the southeastern US with one-day away or same day delivery of heavy or difficult to ship packages such as furniture, fixtures and equipment.

For example, I can see an e-commerce furniture seller or manufacturer eventually sending replacement hardware via drone to a customer but not a boxed sofa, desk, or set of kitchen cabinets.  The need for two-person, white glove delivery is likely here to stay… at least until the Star Trek transporter is widely available. “Beam it over Scotty!”

Over the next 20 years, I think drones will impact the small package delivery world.  Larger and heavier items will likely stay with last-mile delivery providers such as FASTMILE.

Air Traffic Services to FASTMILE!

Why we changed our name from Air Traffic Services to FASTMILE?

fastmile-logo-full-color-rgb headerSimply, FASTMILE better represents whom we serve, how we serve, and what we do. Since 1979, the name Air Traffic Services has served us well, but much has changed in the logistics and delivery industry. It was time for a rebrand to reflect the modern nature of our business and our special role within the logistics industry, especially, within last mile delivery services.

FASTMILE is the same ownership, management and team as ATS. We’re sporting a new look and attitude that is sure to make others red (white and blue) with envy.

In the logistics, delivery, supply chain, and transportation industry, the “last mile” is the term for the final journey a package takes from shipper to receiver. Along the way, a package may travel through distribution centers, warehouses, and hubs, but someone has to get in the hands of the recipient. That someone is us!

FASTMILE is a wonderful play on the concept of the last mile. With our roots in rush courier it seemed only fitting that FAST was a part of our new name. But we’re so much more. We now offer warehousing, distribution, and freight services as well as last mile delivery.

Whom We Serve

Our customers are business shippers who need to get deliveries to other business or residences fast, often same day or next day.  The massive shift to online shopping from e-commerce retailers has exploded the demand for timely, affordable, and accurate last mile deliveries.  Customers expect to order it today and have it fast.

How We Serve

We’re the local people who get it done for shippers, manufacturers, and e-commerce retailers and consolidators.  Our flexibility, broad capabilities, and can do attitude offers customers savings, accuracy, and timeliness that matches or exceeds our big brothers, such as USPS, FedEx, UPS, and DHL. We’re business to business to customer.

What We Do

We are last mile delivery PLUS providers. The “PLUS” part of that equation is largely dictated by customers’ transportation and logistic needs that precede and support the final mile delivery. For example, many customers use our warehouses to store inventory and be on call to deliver to multi-site locations throughout the southeastern USA on a same day or next day basis. Some clients embed and brand our courier delivery teams as their own. Need fulfillment and set-up services? Yep, we can help!

Decide: Where Do You Want to Invest Your Time and Resources?

What if your could free up (or avoid) investing in real estate, handling equipment, software, management, people, and vehicles to focus on your business growth, people, and operations. We free you of the investment and worries associated with the logistical details of getting products and packages where they need to be, when they need to be there, and in the proper condition they need to be upon acceptance.

A New Era

Air Traffic Services began operations in 1979 providing delivery services but quickly diversified into air freight forwarding and local rush courier delivery. Today, we are a high-tech last mile logistics, delivery, and client consulting company that simply delivers daily time and again for thousands of clients throughout the southeastern states.
